It was New Year’s Day in 1992 and I was about to go water skiing in the chilly waters of our local lake.
I guess I’ve always been a little extreme. However, having been born in the mid-size West Texas agricultural town of San Angelo, I grew up with a proper respect for farmers and ranchers who worked to sustain this great country of ours. I remember fondly our annual wool festival complete with the Miss Wool Pageant. The winner would ride in the downtown parade in a sheepskin covered automobile and spend the year doing what she could to support the wool industry.
As I grew older I became involved with a variety of projects. I bought some land outside of town and spent a numbers of years making it into a nice little homestead. I worked as a youth leader at my church while I attended college.

This is where I get to brag on my kids. My daughter Alana (above) recently graduated from Angelo State University with a BS in Physics and is attending graduate school at the University of Alabama. My son Wes (left) is sitting by Aquila the Pygmy goat.

Just some of the critters...
In college I majored in Life Science and Elementary Education with a teaching certificate.
I also spent a few years working with the US Army Corps of Engineers as Park Maintenance. I assisted Park Rangers with range management, including building wildlife habitats, landscaping with native plants and tracking deer population.
I worked four years at Ranch Publishing as editor of Meat Goat Monthly. I’ve met many people from all over the country, and a few from outside our country. I also publish newsletters for two churches.

I stepped in as publisher of Homesteader’s Connection in December of 2001 because I liked what the magazine represents - the homesteading lifestyle. It is my hope that you the reader can find this publication as a forum for homesteaders across the country to share their homesteading dream.
